The first in a series of six.

Ink wash
Micron
Black acrylic paint

The main premise was based on the freedoms we have in America. Six in all:
(in order from top to bottom - right to left)

The right to bear arms.
Freedom from illegal search or seizure.
The right to assemble.
The right to worship.
The right to free speech and press.

This one is the right to bear arms (found in the second amendment).

I am very happy with the way the whole series turned out. My style is going somewhere new... I think

I really like this. It looks like you used grey and black marker. If so, great job on the gradiation layers (sp?). I know how hard it can be and how rewarding.
No markers. Ink wash microns and black acrylic paint. I did the whole series in familiar media (ink) and ran with my old style. I enjoyed doing it and actually, it wasn't that difficult. The layers in ink were pretty fast - unlike paint which takes forever. Glad you like it. Look out for 5 more in a similar style and theme - 5 more in the series.

Excellent concept and style. I love the balance and contrast. Fine symbolism. The character is well rendered. Powerful imagery.

Hmmm i'm doing this all backwards, have only just found this piece now. This series works so well, as a a whole and as individual pieces. I must be honest and say that your concept behind this piece is not immediately apparent to me. I may be having a slow day, but let me dwell upon for a while. Hopefully i don't have to come to you for an explanation! Congratulations on all the pieces of the series so far, am waiting with baited breath for the last 2. If this style is a new development for you I look forward to seeing more of in the future, you are oviously very comfortable with it.

Yeah, this piece is a little hard to figure out if you don't see the whole series. This one and the next (free speech) kinda tie in the whole thing thematically. There is a bigger picture and commentary pertaining to the series as a whole. You'll see. I'm posting speech next.

On another note:

This was done for my drawing class. Before I came up with this series, I had a couple long long loooooong talks w/ my professor who said I nedded to, "experiment" and "go in a new direction" and "not rely so much representation" and to "quit being so literal". We had our back and forth on art and philosophy. I was open minded enough to try her suggestions in some concept sketches - realized it all sucked, and thought... Man, fuck this. I'm not going to listen to this half-baked pseudo arts philosophy BS. So I decided to pick up my old style, embrace my old dark, cynical views and run with them - in the opposite direction of her instruction. And this came out. Thus far, alot of people really, really like what I've come up with and ARMS has landed me a long series of commissions for a band. Go figure. Oh I got a 50/50 on the series too. Stupid professors.

one question: who/what are the figures on either side of the central character representing? Oh nuther Q : how old are you, if you don't mind me asking.
As for embracing your old, dark and cynical self: straight fucking up brother, he's obviously the one who has got some shit to say ! And plenty of people out there want to hear it!! :D Rock the fuck on :chainsaw:
